Well, What Are You Waiting For?

John 1:29-42

“You’ve gotta see this! You’ve just gotta!” my friend panted.

“Well, what is it I have to see? Can’t you tell me?”

But, she insisted I had to see for myself, so I followed her to her house (bear in mind that we were both about 8 at the time and a bit impulsive!) What was waiting? An impressive play tent she and her  sister had put together. I had to see it to know what it was like.

What Jesus invites us to is, of course, more important than a childhood toy, no matter how impressive. His invitation to us is one that must be experienced.  I’m sure many have some trepidation when it comes to deciding to follow Jesus. After all, He asks things of us that can shake our existing values systems.

When the disciples accepted His invitation to “come and see for yourselves”, they learned  that they were in touch with the Messiah Himself. They accepted not only His hospitality, but His call to service. Imagine how two “seekers” managed to change the world by their preaching.

Who knows who may be among us today who only needs an invitation to “come and see?”
