Faithfulness in Prayer

One of the things that people seem to struggle with the most is prayer. While we are called to be faithful in prayer, many people sadly misunderstand what it’s all about.

Unhealthy Prayer Attitudes

Many, influenced by the Word of Faith movement, believe that whatever you pray for is an automatic given, IF it’s done with enough faith. The saddest thing about this way of thinking is that it leads to despair when God’s answer is No and Not Right Now. In my involvement with various prayer groups, I’ve seen a fellow prayer partner berated for chronic health problems, with his attackers claiming that he lacked faith.

What to Do About Them

Unfortunately, because these types of attitudes towards prayer are commonly promoted by Christian writers and TV evangelists, they have a large following. People who have no involvement with a church that teaches sound exegesis methods can be easily taken in. When you encounter this type of thinking, combat it with the most effective tool available – Scripture itself. Explaining the verses in their proper context will go a long way towards helping people.

Please feel free to share any of your experiences involving unhealthy prayer attitudes.
