Thursday Prayer Requests (Commemoration of John H. Newman)

Almighty God, whose blessed Son was led by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan; Come quickly to help us who are assaulted by many temptations; and, as you know the weaknesses of each of us, let each one find you mighty to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with
you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. (Book of Common Prayer 1979)

Let us pray to the Lord, who is slow to anger and rich in mercy.

During this Lenten time of prayer, fasting and self-examination, let us pray that the Church may be strengthened for its mission to those who need the Gospel.

We lift up in prayer: Pastor Isaac (decline in church membership, cash crop destroyed by weather); Prison Fellowship efforts in Minnesota, Nebraska, Washington, Texas, Florida, Ohio, Oregon, California, and New York; community reentry teams for prisoners in Flint, Saginaw, and Midland, MI; the Black History Month event at Milan Federal Correctional Institution

Holy God, the effects of sin are all around us. Let your healing grace and mercy reach out to all those in need. Restore everything that is broken in our lives to wholeness.

We pray for governors and legislators considering changes to inmate programs; Linda’s son in law (needs Christ);  Linda’s grandson (left home); Judie’s family (many personal issues, including a recent death); Gary (rent help); Heidi (needs a cat-friendly apartment); Susie (selling her home)

Let those who are sick, suffering or in any need know of your healing power in their difficulty.

We pray for Alex Beaton (spinal injury); Bunny (bronchitis); Johnny (unknown illness); Barbara & family (Johnny’s grandmother); Judy (unknown weight loss); Judy’s granddaughter (leukemia, blind); Ruth (UTI, diabetic); Ione (flu); J (alcohol abuse); Dale (diabetic with a foot wound); Jeffrey (drugs); Rosalyn H. (ongoing flu symptoms); Terry Van der Aa (recovering from surgery); Deb Hubbell (heart issues); Dixie (healing); Lisa (memory problems); Teresa D’Agostino (possible pneumonia); Betty (pneumonia, unresponsive); Lee (m, BP and oxygen level problems)

Let the faithful departed rest in peace, bring a knowledge and assurance of your love to those who mourn, and keep all of us who pray in everlasting life.

We remember Judie’s husband’s cousin; T.L. Osborn and those who mourn, especially Judie’s family; Daisy Osborn and LaDonna Osborn that they may cast their care on you.

We also praise you for the blessings in our lives, that we and the whole Church may eagerly look forward to rejoicing at Resurrection Day.

Heavenly Father, Shepherd of your people, we thank you for your servant John H. Newman, who was faithful in the care and nurture of your flock; and we pray that, following his example and the teaching of his holy life, we may by your grace grow into the stature of the fullness of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God,
for ever and ever. (Book of Common Prayer 1979)

O God, you led your holy apostles to ordain ministers in every place: Grant that your Church, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, may choose suitable persons for the ministry of Word and Sacrament, and may uphold them in their work for the extension of your kingdom; through him who is the Shepherd and Bishop of our souls, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and
reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and  ever. (Book of Common Prayer 1979)
